About this place
When imagining standard diner-style yakimeshi (fried rice), expectations usually lean toward minced roast pork. Kotobuki offers a pleasant surprise by tossing its rice with slices of beef instead, lending the dish a savory aroma and a hearty, rustic satisfaction. Cooked in rapid strokes and served swiftly to the table, it makes an ideal midday stop when you want an unpretentious, filling meal.
The spread of rice bowls and noodle dishes is equally varied. The katsudon, featuring a generous cut of breaded pork simmered in egg, keeps the rice from turning soggy while carrying a subtle waft of aromatic sansho pepper. Diners can also choose between peppery chuka soba ramen, comforting bowls of udon showcasing clear dashi broth, and Kyoto diner staples such as keiran (egg-drop udon with ginger) or kinugasadon (simmered fried tofu and green onion over rice).
For a more substantial spread, daily set meals feature fish as the main course on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, alongside dependable staples like fried chicken and tonkatsu (pork cutlet). Spaced-out tables offer a relaxed setting even for solo dining, and dedicated parking is available near the shop. Payment is cash only, so be sure to have bills on hand before visiting.
